What do u do to help ur kids when power goes out?

Like a half hr ago the power went out. My son was playing until the power went out and he was scared. My husband found him first and told him it is ok, we got candles and flash light, and i sat on the floor with both of my boys on me saying it is ok soon the power will come on.
SO i was wondering what u guys do to comfort your kids when that happens to u?

  • If it's later we just pile up in our bed and go to sleep. If it's daylight we don't do anything but open all curtains

  • Its time for a camp out in the living room! Throw blankets/sleeping bags and pillows in there and snuggle everyone up. Then read some great stories by flashlight until everyone goes to sleep. Then sneak off with dh for some great sex.

  • Lots of cuddles! Depending on the time of day and the weather, a walk outside.

  • If we don't make it a big deal, it seems they don't seem so scared about it. We say "uh oh" and we hold hands so no one gets lost in the dark while we find our flashlights and candles. We also have a night light turtle that illuminates on the ceiling with stars and we "watch the stars".

  • My kids don't need comfort. They would be running around the house happy because something was different. We would probably play card games by candle light or just go bed. Also...we would have a few hours before the laptops ran out of juice so we could just sit down and watch a movie. The girls also have DSs that last forever.
