We cant put them outside due to a pack of pitbulls that roam our naighborhood had a cat once they killed it so im too scared to put them outside. does anyone know what we can do about the pooping and peeing and the only wanting to feed off mommy?

  • well they will want to feed off mom til they are about 7 weeks or until mom gets after them and lets them know she is done and she starts to wean. try mixing warm water in with their puppy food or some warm can milk. as for poop and pee try to keep them in one area or a small area that is easy to clean and put down newspaper or some pee pads. depending on the age and how warm or cold outside you might want to hold off on putting them outside but now would be a good time to start taking them out for short periods of time to use the bathroom outside and for them to play but make sure they are supervised since you have some dangerous dogs roaming around.

  • I used to raise Shihtzus. They will nurse from their mother exclusively until they are four to six weeks of age. At that time, the mother will still nurse them now and again but you should start feeding them puppy food twice a day. We would soak about a half a cup of food in warm water and them mashed it up when it was soft. If it's a bigger breed you may need a larger measurement. They WILL get messy but it's nothing a bath won't fix. As for "going" everywhere, they should not be wandering the house until their eyes are open and they can run. We kept them in a puppy playpen lined with newspaper. They won't be ready for house training until they are 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 weeks old and don't have the muscle capacity to "hold it" until 12 weeks so take them out supervised and on leash frequently. (every 30 minutes or so) When you let the run around the house, do it in short bursts and tell your kids to sit on the floor and let the

  • Keep them separate from their mother, so as to give her a break !
Have you got a separate room ie. a small bathroom, where you can spread newspapers and train them to just p@e on the newspapers?

  • puppies come to them to avoid another puppy being trampled. So sorry btw. :( That's another great reason for the playpen. It protects them and keeps them from using your whole house as their bathroom. I recommend putting the pen in a warm, tiled room. It's easier to clean newsprint off of tile. You could use the store bought absorbent pads but newspaper is cheaper and works just fine. If you intend to sell the puppies, I would start taking pictures to put up on facebook or keep on file to email to interested parties and advertise them in the newspaper. They will be ready to leave their mother and their litter mates at 8 weeks or 12 weeks for small breeds. At that point, they will have learned proper canine social skills from mom and from being with brothers and sisters. Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions and GL. :)

  • Mamastuart has the right advice. 5 week old puppies can not control their bladder, or be kept outside. They can't regulate their body temperature quite yet either, that is the mother dog's job. Does the mother dog have a way to come and go as she wants? At this age, the mother dog usually does start leaving the pups on their own for periods of time, but not entirely yet. They are not ready to go anywhere for at least another 2-3 weeks.
