If your trash day falls on a holiday, do you get pick up on another day or have to wait a week?

Our city used to leave a paper tag on the trash cans if they were changing our service date. Now, they put a flyer in your first bill in January telling you when they will be switching days for the entire year. Our trash day is on Mondays and for the last few Monday "holidays" they have not picked up our trash until the following week. We have neighbors who leave their dumpsters on the curb, so it's easy to see if we missed the pick up or they just did not come. It's really starting to upset me because they also recently switched out our dumpster for a smaller one and it will not hold two weeks worth of trash. Should I call the city and complain?

  • Our trash day is Friday. It used to be if there was a Monday holiday our trash got picked up on Saturday. This year they changed it and still come on the Friday.

  • Our trash/recycling day is Wednesday, so not too many holidays off, but when it happens, they just pick up the next day.

You could try calling the city & requesting that they switch you back to the larger dumpster, maybe citing health hazards because of the smaller dumpster (trash on the ground, rats, etc.) to get them on your side. They most likely went to smaller dumpster to save money, but if there is trash blowing everywhere or rats moving in because of the excess trash, they may reconsider because those things will cost them more money.
