Can I substitute red wine VINEGAR when it calls for just red wine?

I'm a Crock Pot mom and i'm doing Boogie Woogie Beef tips and I just got back from the store in the freezing weather with my girl, and I don't want to go back out. Also, she's now taking a nap.

I forgot the red wine - can I sub red wine vinegar?

  • No. Vinegar is not a substitute for red wine. Juices are a good substitute for reds..grape juice or cranberry juice, even pomegrante, for white apple juice or apple cider..perhaps even white grape

  • I'd put in a beef broth or even water if you can't find another good substiute at home. Vinegar would make your whole meal yucky! Put your hands up and step away from the red wine vinegar!

  • No, it is not a good substitute. Beef broth would be your best choice. Juice will be too sweet on it's own, but you can mix it with broth.
