Do you ask family members what type of b-day cake they want?

Do you take into consideration the type of birthday cake or whatever sweet they want or do you make or buy whatever you want? I cater to their whims since it's their day. I'm making a coconut cake today with pastry filling and French Buttercream with toasted coconut. This may shape into being one of my fave cakes-yum!

  • Sometimes. Oldest DD asked for an ice cream cake this year, and I had too much going on to bake one of my normal cakes. Sometimes I like to surprise them, and sometimes I just want to make what they want and get it done.

  • I don't really need to with DH. His favorite is German Chocolate. My son, well he's happy with any kind of cake, especially chocolate, LOL. But I did ask him what theme he wants for his birthday (Mickey Mouse).

  • I always ask my kids - hubby is happy with anything chocolate. I did make a special cake for my little brother one year since they were visiting on his birthday. His favorite ice cream is cherries, pecans and cream and his favorite cake is a butter cake my mom makes. I made the butter cake in layers, filled it with cherry pie filling and frosted it with butter cream and added chopped pecans to the sides and pecan halves and cherries to the top. He loved it and was totally surprised.

  • always, my oldest don't like cake so he usually picks chocolate cream pie. They usually get to pick what we have for dinner on their day as well.
