How many words should a 16 month old say?

My baby boy is 16 months and he's not really talking yet. He say moma, daddy. Is it too early to know if there is a speech delay?

  • My 12 month old can say momma, da da, bye bye, ball, sissy and she says pat pat when she does pat a cake.

all kids are different, does he still take a pacifier? I know kids that take a pacifier sometimes talk less. I think as long as he is saying some words he is fine but if you have a concern i would ask your dr. at his next well check up.

  • I agree with L0ving, all kids are different. He learned how to say his sisters and his aunt's name! Thats hard. I think he is doing just fine and you have nothing to worry about just keep doing what your doing!

  • Chase is 15 months old, and he didn't start really talking until maybe 2 months ago? Boys generally take longer to talk. I don't think a doctor would really be concerned until he's 2ish, but it never hurts to ask.
