How long do you think it will take for potatoes to cook in a crock pot?

I was making a chicken recipe in the crock pot and decided to add potatoes. By the time we're supposed to eat dinner, they'll have been in there with the chicken for about 2 hours, on high. Do you think that's long enough for them to cook and become soft?

  • It depends on the type of potatoes (Red, gold, russut, etc), the size are in general, if they're cut up and if they're not, etc.
Red and Yukon Gold are best for crock pot recipes. Cut up or whole they cook down a lot easier and will most likely be done after two hours.

  • what size potatoes? Small red or golden potatoes should be fine. larger ones would need to be halved.

  • most likely but all you have to do is stick your fork in and taste it and if its soft its done

  • I would check them about a half hour before you want to eat. If needed , take out the potatoes and microwave them until done , then add them back. Bon Apetite... :-)

  • You could always boil them for about 20 minutes first to get the cooking process started and then add them.
