Calico beans?

Over rice....

What would you add to this to make it a balanced meal?

  • I would maybe add some meat it seems like its missing something, the beans and rice sound good but maybe some protein like turkey sausage, ground turkey

  • It's supposed to have ground beef and bacon in it. I usually eliminate the ground beef because I forget to buy it LOL. Aren't beans a protein though?

  • Use brown rice. Serve vegetables. The beans and rice provide at least half of the protein needed for a day.

  • The beans provide protein & fiber. You're missing vegetables, fruit, and dairy. Like rokolo said, use brown rice so you get your whole grain & a more complex carb. Sounds interesting though, I've never thought to serve calico beans over rice. But now you have me craving calico beans, yum!

  • The beans, when combined with a grain (the rice) form a complete protein. You need vegetables or fruit and dairy. A salad or coleslaw or fruit salad with a glass of milk would work, or broccoli with cheese sauce.
