  • My pediatrician said the same thing.  Not until 3.  I took all 3 of mine in when they got their first tooth.  All 3 were under a year. And their dentist recommends at 18 months to start coming in.

  • He was 4, and both my dr. and dentist said 3 was the recommended age unless something was wrong before then. We just never got around to it till he was 4, and his teeth are straight and perfectly healthy, no cavities or concerns of any kind. Call the dentist you plan on using and ask, my personal dentist will not see a child under 3 unless for emergency (like tooth/gum decay, teeth coming in very wrong or impacted, bottle rot) because he believes it causes children more stress then needed having someone poke around in their mouth. And until children have all their teeth the dentist won't clean them. Clearly other people's dentists have different opinions, so just go with what your pedi/dentist recommend.

  • At age 2.5 the visit was just to sit in the chair, the dentist showed my kids the tools that he uses and counted the teeth. The visual inspection was enough and then they returned a year later.
