Whats your child's identity?

I have always wondered how children view themselves.

So I'm curious, what does your kid say when you ask them who they are and how old are they?

  • They both say their name but only my son(who is 7) will say his age. My 3 yr old daughter doesn't yet. My son will sometimes call himself by another name if he's been watching certain shows (like he'll say he's Max from Max and Ruby).

  • My son is 2 but has a speech delay. Interestingly enough he has started to use "I" statements. He has never used "me want this" or "me watch that." When he does accomplish a speech milestone he usually has correct grammar. But he does call my husband by his first name from time to time. He just realized that I don't always use "daddy" and thinks its funny to call after him using his other name. It is rather cute.

  • If I ask my children who they are they tell me interesting things about themselves and how they view themselves. For example my 9 year old will tell me

"I am an artist, funny and enthusiastic 9 year old boy."
I get the same kind of responses from my 11 year old and 7 year old.

I think that the older children get the more they are aware of who they are as a person and what their likes are.

  • Reading these answers reminds me of my 10 yr old. His name is Nicholas Robert Cook. When he was 5 he insisted his name was Nicholas Robert Darnley Cook Batman. (My maiden name is Darnley). He did this for about 6 months. I still tease him about it. lol....

  • All of ours say their name and age. They're 6, 9 & 10.
