Child Wiping Self

When do you leave it up to your child to wipe themselves after having a bowel movement?

  • for sure... try it around 4-5. before Kindagard. they need to be able to do so alone, don't think the teachers gonna be wiping children. Even in Pre K at 4... the teacher will tell you they need to be able to wipe (unless there is an accident). but surely while training and teaching them.. check behind them. ( and little girls fronts... need to wipe from the top towards the back(pee) so not to cause a bacterial infection from the back end area)

  • After you have allowed them to wipe themselves and you have checked and they did a good job for a period of time.

  • when they no longer yell "mom can you wipe my butt." and assume the position. :) no really id say when they can do it themselved and for us it was about 3.5 or 4

  • Mine just kind of started doing it on their own. I provided wet wipes and showed them how to clean themselves, and the just kind of stopped asking me to do it eventually. My boys were around 3 once trained and started cleaning up themselves about 6 months later.
