OMG! Rust on my expensive silverware!

Is there anything I can use to get it off?! My mom got them for us as a wedding gift and they've only been out of the box once or twice and now they have rust on almost every piece on the handle part. All I can think of that might have happened is maybe hubby didn't dry them before putting them away last time they were used.

  • I can believe tarnish, but rust? Silverware needs to be polished. If you keep it wrapped in plastic wrap that helps inhibit the tarnishing somewhat, but every time we use(d) our silver it needed to be polished first.

  • Real silver cannot rust. Tarnish looks like rust, but is not.

  • I agree with candi1024,,, real silverwear does not rust. If it is rust it will probably not come off.

  • Bar Keeper's Friend. It's ~$2 at any store (I've bought it from Lowe's, Target, and the grocery store). It cleans just about everything.

  • Is it rust or tarnish? A silver polish will take off tarnish. I doubt that they are rusted.

  • I've tried polishing and it's not coming off.

I've looked for the Bar Keeper's Friend before for some reason (can't remember why now), and we can't find it around here. Maybe if we go back to the nearest "city" soon I'll be able to find it at Target or something. I'll keep looking for it in the mean time.
