Working Out - PIOG

I need advice please! I'm 9 weeks pregnant, and we just joined a gym. I had 2 miscarriages before my son, so I'm paranoid! I haven't really been working out at all other than chasing 20 month old around the house ... what would you feel safe doing? Obviously I'm not going to push myself too far, but I want to do the elliptical, swim laps, walk on treadmill, etc. I'm a bit overweight (20ish lbs), and I'd like to stay a bit healthier this time around (NOTE: I do not want to lose weight, just want to be healthier!! I care way more about the well being of this little bugger in me to be selfish about my figure right now!). Any advice or reassurance? Thanks in advance:)

  • i think that all 3 you mentioned would be fine, don't go crazy fast, and listen to/ follow your gut! I can understand wanting to be careful, it makes perfect sense!
enjoy your toddler and your pregnancy and the gym too!

  • Walk the treadmill, work your upper body (muscle burns fat so you'll have unwanted body fat on you), and even try yoga. Plus you'll have an easy birth/delivery since you worked out. :)

  • I would talk to your dr to see what he/she thinks. I would think that doing some light cardio and weights, as well as some swimming would be OK, but I am not a dr.

  • You should really talk to your doctor/midwife before you start anything. If you had already been working out, I'd say you should be okay continuing what you were doing, but starting an exercise regimen is generally not ideal when you're pregnant. That said, walking and swimming would generally be considered safe. With your history, I'd definitely talk to your provider before setting foot in the gym. Good luck!

  • Ask your doctor before doing any exercise...I'm pretty sure walking/swimming is fine...most pregnant women do these things on a regular basis...but after the miscarriages, I'd check to be sure first.
