Name change

what does everybody think about me changing my babys last name to my last name. right now she has her fathers and he wants nothing to do with either of ur?

  • You may have to have his permission to do so. Call the Courthouse and ask but I don't see anything wrong with it

  • i know i looked into changing my daughters last name to her birth father's from my last name when we decided to work out our problems instead of divorcing which ended up happening anyways. i needed his signature on all of the forms so i wound up not doing it since he was not in the area at the time. good thing since we divorced and he hasn't seen her since she was 3 months old and she'll be 5 in a few months.

  • This is something you would have to ask an attorney. If his name is on the birth certificate or paying child support, you may have to have his permission.

  • Check with the county probate court. They may have a simple and inexpensive form.
