Should I wake him up?

My baby's last feeding was almost 4 hours ago. But I keep getting mixed advice. Some people tell me to wake him, but when I do that he gets upset and has to be calmed down before he eats. Then some people say "Let him sleep, he'll wake up and ask to nurse when he's hungry." WTH!!!!! My baby is a little over a week old.

  • My doctor told me that it is better to feed on demand... they will start their own schedule. let him sleep and when he is hungry, he will let you know.

  • I wouldn't wake him up! If he had a good feeding before he went down, is having wet diapers, etc, let that baby sleep -- especially at night! =) Now, why are YOU up, tee hee!

  • babies don't go by clocks. you'll feel alot better if you just go with the flow. feed him when he shows hunger (don't wait til he cries) & sleep when he sleeps. you're a new mom. take what rest you can get! lol. trust your body & your baby. they work together. he'll wake up when he's ready & your body will produce what he needs.

  • I would let him sleep, he will wake up if he is ready to eat. Trust me- They always wake up to
If he goes like a few hours longer then usual between, i would go ahead and wake him. But its hard to have a full blown schedual this young.
Also, you're the momma- use your mommy judgement. You know your baby way better then we do. LOL Good luck!

  • I would let him sleep my babies were all sleeping mostley through the night at that age already I know it sounds horrible but he wouldnt be sleeping if he were hungary so just wait til he tells you he is!! if you get to worried go ahead and wake him up for your piece of mind if nothing else.... but he could just be getting his days and nights straightned out!!!

  • did he have full 8 ounces ? or 4 ounces ? how much he had depends on if I would wake him up or not. what are his stool numbers like and how frequent pee changes should decide if it's inportant enough to wake him up.
if he's had his stoll count for the day usually two and if he's had his pee changes then I believe your ok to let him be and you should take a nap. if your up worrying about him your milk wont flow as easily and that will stress you out more. so grab something to drink like milk or juice and have a little snack for yourself. then your milk production should just be ready for him to wake up in a hour. So you can feed him and then go to sleep when your done.
    good luck

  • I always let my babies feed on demand. I never wake them up to eat--they always wake up hungry when they are ready. Congrats on the new baby!

  • Sleep= growth. Food is just as important as food. Let your babe sleep. He'll wake up when he's ready. Enjoy the sleep yourself mama!
