S/o of the "fat cat" question

What exactly IS the difference between a union and a mafia protection racket (ignoring for a moment how deeply intertwined the union and the mafia are to begin with)? They both worm their way into a territory and inform people that they will pay them for their protection whether they want to or not. Why is it ok when it's called a union, and not ok when it's called the Caruso Family? (but it's a gray area when it's a union staffed by the Caruso Family)

  • I'm pretty sure the differences between a group of criminals and a group of school teachers are pretty obvious...

  • and a group of school teachers

You really believe the union is the teachers? The union is the 6 figure salaries in charge who occasionally pander to the teachers if they have to, in order to keep their jobs. The teachers are the ones who think the union actually gives a damn about them, even though the union is the one increasing the chances they'll be laid off.

  • The 20,000 people at the capital do.

There is a gigantic difference between collective bargining and using violence, the threat of violence and coersion. Last time i checked no teachers had thrown maltov cocktails into the admin building when they didn't get thier way. Give me a break.

  • LOL, darn those pesky facts!

There are at least 100 teachers in our district that can tell you the Union wasn't for them. The union said absolutely NO to any negotiations the last 2 years. The district had no choice except fire teachers.

    Which is it..
the unions are for the teachers and the teachers simply don't give their collective rat's behinds about the children...or
the unions don't give a rat's behind behind about the teachers or the children?
