  • I'm not sure how to actually increase how fast they grow, but if you get them strong and healthy, they won't break or need trimming, so they will get longer more easily (hope that makes sense).

What helps my nails is zinc (3-4 times a week -- a real strengthener), B-complex vitamin (in addition to my regular multivitamin) that has a good amount of biotin.

If your nails are brittle and discolored, you may have a fungal infection. Trim them all short and even, then after cleaning them well, apply straight Tea Tree oil (you can get at most health food or drug stores). Much like pine or eucalyptus, Tea Tree oil has a strong fragrance, but not unpleasant. Apply at bedtime, let it soak in for 10 mins, then rinse with plain water (so the smell doesn't overpower you during the night). In a week you will see improvement. In 2 weeks, your nails will be lovely. In 4 weeks, they should be long.

  • Nails grow at their own rate, you can't speed them up.  Use a good nail fortifier, file them regularly, and keep them polished using a good base and top coat.

Regular maintenance is the key to growing and keeping long nails.

  • After I had my second kid my nails have been growing faster. But I don't think that is a viable solution. I would look at your diet, and take care of them.

  • i remember when i was a kid my mom used to dip her nails in mayo and olive oil. she always had such pretty nails. i've never really had a problem though so i've never tried it.

  • It won't help them grow any faster but to make them stonger put a minced clove of garlic in a clear nail polish. Let it set for about a week, apply daily. It has worked wonders for my nails.

  • if your nails are brittle then it's your diet you need to change. Make sure you are taking vitamins.. maybe even some prenatals. If you are unhealthy, your nails will be too. Besides, the healthier you are the faster your nails will grow.. (there isn't anything that will work better than a healthy diet and a healthy you).

in the mean time there are a few things you can do.. invest in nail wraps (they cover your natural nail to help strengthen them so they aren't easily broken).. or try a nail strengthener (stay away from those containing formaldehyde)... get timely manicures (they help keep the nail healthy as well).
