IF you use meds to help with period pain, do you prefer Midol, Pamprin, Excedrin Menstrual? Or is there another med I haven't heard about/seen yet?

  • They are all the same to me. None has worked any better than the other. Sometimes I even go get vicodin from my doctor when it's really bad.

  • I don't use meds; if I get cramps (which I rarely do), I take magnesium and it works like a charm.

  • How much mag, and how does it help? My chiro recently told me to take it to help prevent every getting any more kidney stones, but I haven't pursued purchasing any yet.

  • I take a calcium/magnesium supplement nightly before bed (1,000 mg calcium/500 mg. magnesium); been doing that for years. When I get period cramps, I take an additional 400 mg. tablet of magnesium oxide. Does the trick.

Calcium contracts muscles; magnesium relaxes them. Mag works great for RLS (restless leg syndrome) too. If you're hesitant to take it in pill form, you can try taking organic unsulphured black strap molasses (full of magnesium and iron). It has to unsulphured to do the trick.
