  • Every baby MUST be rear facing to at least one yr AND 20lbs. It is much much safer to continue to rear face beyond that though. Our car seats go to 33lbs and 35lbs so we won't turn Caleb around until he reaches that weight, unless he ougrows it in height. He'll most likely reach the weight limit first because the car seats are very high. We are hoping to make it to at least 2 yrs old but he is growing too fast. I would be thrilled to make it to 3 yrs old. It isn't about laws or bare minimum requirements. It is about keeping your babies as safe as possible. Turning your baby around too early is far from the safe option and is putting the baby in a lot of danger.

  • I don't know about all states but in mine, it's illegal to turn it around until they are one and weigh 30 lbs.

  • i will keep my son rear-facing as long as i can... everything i've read says that its the safest way for them to ride in the car.

  • We turned Cadence's carseat around when she was 13 months old. And although she is 20 months now, there arestill times that I wish that I had her in the rear facing carseat.

  • legally you are supposed to wait until they are one and i think between 20-25 lbs. and even if thats not the law where you live, its still the safest. i waited until my son turned one.

  • Law here in Ohio says:

Age 1 "AND" 20 lbs... not one or the other. Has to be age 1 and 20 lbs before you can turn the seat around faceing forward.

  • 15 months. My dd is tiny and didn't reach 20 pounds till then and I felt it was safest to keep her that way till she was 20 pounds.
