Job advice.....

Anyone have any career ideas for me I am stuck?

I like the idea of not having a uniform, but dressing nice for work.
I enjoy working with people, specially kids/teens.
I like to help people and make a difference.
I like the idea of a nine-five job or making my own hours.
I also would like to be self-employed one day like my father.

I have thought of things like...
Wedding planning, but I live in a small town.
Teacher, but it don't seem like they are hiring.
Legal assistant, but they don't make enough for all they do.
Photographer, but I really ain't sure how to start.
and a few others....

  • Teacher - need a degree
Legal Assistant - need a paralegal certification in most law offices
Photographer - have to have the money to start
Preschool - need early childhood certification

Your best bet, if you haven't gotten anything beyond your HS diploma (or GED), then you need to go to your local community college and talk to a career counselor there.

  • You can declare a General Studies Major. Lots of jobs only look for that degree. Have you thought about a Drug Rep? All you need is a degree for that one, you make great money and you get to do a lot of socializing!! LOL!

  • Go to a community college, and take Microsoft Office classes (at least Word, Excel and Powerpoint); take one or two basic bookkeeping classes. Start looking for administrative positions.

    Good luck!

  • Just go with general studies. You can get a Bachelors degree in general studies. Have you taken computer classes. That's pretty mandatory in the work world these days. My sons gf is a social worker with Goodwill industries. It's a pretty interesting job. She used to work for CPS. There are lots of things you can do with a Social Worker degree.

  • Let me tell you what works for me. I provide groups with fundraisers where they make 50% of what they sell. I provide them with colorful brochures. They do all the work. I punch in the order & the product goes striaght to the group. No delivery for me. It is that easy. My groups come back year after year. The company used to be known as Home Interiors. After 50 years in business, they mergered with Home & Garden Party to form Celebrating Home. There are always contests where you can win all kinds of prizes, trips and even cars. Right now we are in the middle of a promotion where I can win a trip to New York. In March, you can get a fundraising kit that will get you started for $99.00 or if you want to do both the fundraising & the parties, you can get a kit with product valued over $350.00 for $99.00. Feel free to ask me any questions you have or go to my site I'll be glad to help.
