Does the meaning of a name play a role (big or small) in your choosing of a name?

  • Yes, it plays a role for me. I have decided to not use names that I really like the sound of because they have terrible meanings.

  • I do not care about the made up meaning of names. I think when you give a child a name they give it its own special meaning.

    Now if i couldnt make up my mind between two of my favorite names and one had the meaning "gracious" and the other had then meaning "dimwitted" then maybe that would play a tiny part in helping me decide, but still not much.

  • The meaning in my DD's name is that she is named after people (my great aunt and DH's grandmother) but I don't know what either of her names actually means. Hmmm, maybe I should look it up. To me the meaning is in who she is named after though.

  • Not at all, I found out the meaning AFTER he was already named. But his name does fit him.
