After years of lumbar pain my husband agreed to L5-S1 disc replacement surgery on the advice of several specialists. The surgery was performed in a top ranking spinal surgery facility by an experienced, caring surgeon and was what they consider to be a success.
Immediately post-op DH experienced numbness, tingling and weekness in his left leg and foot. He was prescribed 2 steroid packs and an opioid pain medication.
Now, 2 weeks post-op, DH is experiencing severe leg pain which can be compared to a pulled hamstring. Doctor's office has prescribed an opioid/acetaminophen combination pain med which does not relieve the pain and other meds used to treat nerve pain.
There are a hundred forums out there that provide comfort in knowing that we are not alone in this cycle of pain, surgery and meds. All of these sites however, fail to provide original posters follow-up posts. Instead, they provide an endless supply of horror stories and comparitive experiences without any hope or pain management suggestions.
Is there someone out there that has a positive experience that they might share or a nurse or doctor that might be forthcoming with information or suggestions. I just want to help provide my husband some hope and pain relief.
