  • Not rude, maybe insensitive. Everyone I know struggles financially on some level.

  • well there is a huge difference betweeen no food and a vacation....its not all the same because food is a basic need and if they can't afford that a vacation seems like a luxury! That being said I am struggling to afford a vacation and now putting money aside to take my kids on their first real vacation. I think vacations are necessary but if I could not even afford food probably would think differently on that one....

  • Does the other family know that the family they are talking to can barely afford food?

If not, no not rude. If so, inconsiderate but really rude.

Hardships/tough times are all in the eye of the beholder. What is a "hardship" or difficult time to one, isn't necessarily that for another.. My hard times aren't the same as someone else's and vice a versa.

  • I would say that is cruel.. Complaining you can't take a vacation to a family member that can barely afford food is just not right... The two are very different. You don't need a vacation but you damn sure need food..

Money problems are not all the same...

  • I dumpster dived and pan handled to eat as a child so I guess someone who could barely afford food would have been better off than me. I wouldn't have begrudged them for complaining we all have our struggles and everyone should be able to vent and express emotions about what they are going through.

  • That's probably the worst off that they've ever been in their lives so they don't know any differently.
