  • Just stay away from her. There should be so much going on that you two don't have to spend a lot of time with her but talking about the weather is a safe topic

  • Everybody loves to talk about themselves ,just ask her about her and she will talk, and talk and talk.

  • It is always best to get the person talking about themselves. Or talk about something you have in common, like your husband perhaps. Do you have children? Talk about them, tell her what they are doing in school, like or dislike. Try to steer the conversation away from anything too personal, or away from discussing yourself. Do you have a book that you read recently to discuss? Have you seen a great movie that you can talk about? Have you been to a really good restaurant that you can tell her about, and ask her in turn if she has seen a good movie, read a good book, been to a special restuaruant.

If all else fails, talk about how beautiful the wedding is, the beautiful bride, the flowers, the menu, the flower girl....anything is game!

    Good LUCK!

By the way, I can assure you that your anxiety in anticipating your MIL will be far worse than the actual time spent won't be that bad in retrospect, remember that!!! : )

  • if nothing else, if you aren't sure what to say, ask the person about themselves, their job, family whatever. People usually like talking about themselves.
