22mo old, week long cough, anything to worry about?

The cough has been lasting for about a week now. In the morning it is a very mucous filled cough- although she never coughs anything up. And throughout the day and during the night, it is a dry cough. Though she will have coughing fits that cause her to gag, as if she were choking. Is this normal? Or something I should go to the pedi for?

  • Then i'd definitely just wait a bit for her to get over it. Especially if she doesn't have a fever or anything. And especially with the time of year. She could just have allergies. I know here in Georgia the pollen is kinda been crazy the past two weeks. The only thing theyd do at the doctor is give her antibiotics, which she doesn't really need if she has a cough with no fever and isn't really ACTING sick.

  • I would take her to the doctor just incase, it could turn into something worse if you are not careful. Hope she is ok and gets better :)

  • A productive cough is okay, even for a week but coughing to the point of gagging is likely something the ped will like to listen to and address. Don't panic but call the nurse line tomorrow.

  • Does she make any wierd noises with the cough? Look up how whooping cough sounds and how croup sounds. But pretty much as long as she isn't making a noise when breathing, isn't having problems breathing, and isn't making herself throw up all the time form the coughing.. it's just waiting it out. Running a humidifer at night or holding her so her head in elevated might help her sleep better if she is coughing herself awake. Just make sure she stays hydrated.

  • She hasnt thrown up, or made the whoop/croup noise while coughing. We just got over the flu two weeks ago. And other than the cough she has no other symptoms.
