How much water should you really drink per day?

I've read many articles about this and their answers vary. The traditional ones say 8 8 oz glasses of water per day (which equals 1.9 liters) however I took this online quiz that said I should drink 2.2 liters. This seems like a lot to me.

  • You should take your weight and divide by 2. That is how many ounces you should drink per day.

Keep in mind that you make up some of the volume by the foods you eat. Any drinks with caffiene will need to be flushed by drinking the equivalent in water.

So, if I have to drink 77 oz per day and I drink 77 oz of water and then 1 coke, I have to add in more water to compensate for the coke. That is more than the original 77 oz.

  • I drink a gallon (to a gallon plus) everyday, easily. Water is my primary beverage.. I drink water with every meal, plus all day long and 32oz when I workout alone..

I predominately drink: water, coffee and the occasional Chai.. I don't drink sodas (ie: coke, pepsi..etc), when I want something like that I drink seltzer water/club soda instead.

  • Half your weight in ounces. I weigh 215 so I'm supposed to drink 107.5 oz - but most days I don't get there. That does include other liquids too - milk, juice, tea, etc, you don't have to drink that much water besides other liquids.
