What are good foods to have when you have a cold besides chicken soup?

My daughter has a doozy of a cold and no appetite. She's had some toast, crackers, broth, juice and water so far (not much of anything) but nothing is really interesting her. Any ideas? She's not a great eater at the best of times so I'm concerned. She'll pick back up, I know but in the meantime, she needs to fight this cold.

  • Honey and lemon concoctions. I personally prefer it with some green tea.

100% orange juice, avocado, spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, garlic, grapefruit, lean meat, and yogurt are others. After what I have listed and chicken soup, there isn't anything else I am aware of that will help.

The sugar in a can of soda suppresses immune function by 30 percent for three hours, so avoid things with a high sugar content. Avoid excess milk products if you are stuffy. Milk protein thickens mucous and makes it harder to drain.

Finally, although there is no such thing as an absolute cold-fighting food remedy, building up your immune system can only help.

  • Jello? I Always liked to have jello and peaches all mixed together. Same for pudding (but nothing mixed in lol) I know its junk food but it will help coat the tummy and get her to want to eat more. Most kids like a little junk food so I would try jello or pudding and see if that will get something on her tummy and make her want to eat more. Best wishes

  • PP - You should not have junk food at all when you're sick. Read what I posted above. That is a terrible idea IMO.

  • Thanks...I'm fine though. It's my daughter who is almost 3. She tends to get over things quickly so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for eating and drinking. :)

  • I hope she's Better soon. Anything she will eat or if she craves or asks for anything. Cravings dictate what we're lacking in our diets!! Feel Well soon!!
