How can I laminate only the rims of a mirror?

I created a mosaic mirror and would like to frame only the rims, so the depth side(want to cover some cracked edges of mosaic) of the mirror and the mosaic will be covered. I have seen in an art gallory they covered the sides of the mirror and tiles with a coating of shiny black (looks like a black laminate actually) glaze. Anyone have any idea of how to get that affect?

I want to cover the sides of the mirror so the cracked edges of the mosaic will not show. I don't want the frame on top the mirror. right now the mosaic is acting like a frame to the mirror.
