Help me understand how they measure the baby?????

When you get an ultrasound, they only give you the measurement from crown to rump, right? Last week my baby was 2 in. long. So does that mean it is really longer because of the legs?

  • Yes, I asked my ob the same question at my first ultrasound. The reson they do that is because the legs are small and scrunched up until later in pregnancy.

  • They measure limb bones to determine if the baby is the right size (average) for gestational age, along with abdomen and head diameter. But in terms of the ultrasound, they most reliable measurements are head to rump.
