  • Mine son is off also...drving me nuts....they had a "teacher in service". I hate when they have these kinds of days off cause i never realize it till the night before. But it happens here 2 or 3 times a year. (nj)

  • Yes they call them teacher work days. They go to conferences or whatever. We get them usually around 5 times a year.

  • They're pretty standard. Some school boards opt to do them as half days where others are full days. Some are on Friday or Monday where others are through the week.

  • Our schools have school improvement days. But the 2011-2012 they will be eliminating those, forever.

  • We are out today too. No money, so teachers have to take certain days off without pay.

  • We have professional development days. They are often the day after a Monday holiday, so we get an extra day to go somewhere or ski. We also have late start days where the kids go 1.5 late but the teachers get workshops.

  • Yes, we do that is when the teachers are in meetings all day for professional development. Then there are inservice days, teacher workdays too.
