What age did your kids start getting shots in the arms instead of legs?

My 5 year-old and 2 year-old have shots today. My oldest asked where she would be poked today, I told her the leg or the arm because I didn't know which.

What age did your kids do the switch from leg to arm?

  • I dont think there is an "age" I think they use the leg because the shots go in the muscle and the leg can handle it better, usually fattier. My son is 5 and gets them in his leg because arms are thin and

  • At his last appointment for shots, he was 4. He did not like it.

  • I would say about 2. I don't remember because that was 12 years ago. My son has never been given a shot in the butt. It has always been the arm or thigh.

  • My oldest DD is 2, she still gets a shot in her leg. I guess it depends on the office.

  • I think they only got them in the legs as little babies, I believe at 1 year old they started in the arm, the parent has to hold them in a certain positition (like a hug) so they dont move around.
