I want to make cake pops

And the recipes all call for cake mix and canned frosting. What kind of homemade frosting is closest to canned without all the nasties?

  • I do, too, but I'm afraid it will melt and separate rather than act as a glue.

  • I would assume you could use any homemade frosting.

  • Any frosting will work. I have a couple of buttercream recipes that work, as well as a cream cheese recipe. Some need to be refrigerated though but I haven't had any melt/seperate/fall apart. It's the amount of frosting you use that's key. Check out bakerella.com for some ideas, and the cake 101 group is pretty helpful too for them.
