  • I was raised Catholic but never understood the concept. Shouldn't we be appreciating the sacrifice every day? Should we be willing to sacrifice every day?

  • I used to. We do give up meat. But really after DH being jobless for 2+ years & also losing our insurance. And my Triple negative Breast cancer & My earning no income. I go without the basics and most luxurious, treats, conveniences and what not.. Like we haven't turned on our furnace since '04's Flood. Etc.. I don't know what more I could or can give up. Except the little fight I have left in me! My Best friend told me when she found out I had TN breast cancer. God has wanted you for a long time. You suffered your whole life. He's trying hard to get you! We'll see. Good luck in your decision.

  • I had a friend that during Lent would be filled with self righteousness because she had given up one thing or another. I never understood how giving up snacks, or shaving, or watching the news, or playing games with your kids show appreciation for anything. For you do you feel and find that appreciation after that 40 days of going without something?
Please don't give up CM there is so much more to choose from.

  • I gave up fast food and it is a sacrifice. I am craving a greasy cheeseburger from a local drive in! It will be a long 40 days. Last year, I didn't give up anything, I tried to do things for other people that weren't expecting the help.

Meooma You give up something that is not good for you/your body. Your giving up those temptations as Jesus did.
