Grandparents names

I have two children from previous relationships. Now I am happily envolved with my soul mate and he has no kids. He is the oldest of 4 kids to his parents and they are not yet grandparents. My youngest (he is 3) has started calling them grandma and grandpa. My (future) father in law doesn't mind but my (future) mother in law doesn't want to be called grandma or Mrs. (her last name), her reasoning is because it will make her old. When we asked what she wanted to be called she said just Dawn (her name). lol So I was wanting to know what your kids call their grandparents? My boyfriend and I talked about it and think she needs a name they can call her and our future kids can call her.

I am looking for something that doesn't make her feel old. lol

  • She has a son old enough to be a father. She is old enough to be a grandmother.
It is an honor to be called grandma.

  • My grandkids call us Grandma and Papa..We aren't sure how Papa came about but that's what they call him. My boys called all their grandparents Grandma or Pa (and their first name). Like My Grandfather was Papa Joe to the boys even though I called him Grandpa.

  • Our kids call their grandparents Nanny and Papa and Mema and Pepa. My grandma they call Grannie and called my grandpa Papaw. My husband wants to be called Grandpa Joe (think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and I think I'm going to either Meme or Grams.

  • i have a stepdaughter and my parents are not called grandma or grandad by her..instead she calls them Mrs. Susan and Mr. Jeff...my own dd now 1 does not call them grandma and grandad either..i personally felt it made my parents seem old by being called grandma etc...you should just ask your future ma inlaw what she prefers..

  • My aunt is Gigi for some reason.
My dad is Papa and my mom would have just been Gramma but she died when my oldest was 2 months.
My mil is just Gramma or Gramma Kay (to the great-grandkids to differentiate between their "gramma"--my sil). My fil was Grampa or Paw-paw.

  • If she perfers to be called by her give name...go with it. Oh and our g.kids call us papa and g.ma, granny, mom, dad. We're raising them so it's pretty much just whichever comes out of their mouth at the time. I also have been given the name G.Thug by my kid's friends because I take them to concerts and go to the concert with them. (It's a compliment)
