Potty Training help!

My daughter is 2 and a half and shows all the signs of being ready to potty train. My husband and I decided to go ahead and start the other day. Well the only way we can get her to go pee in the potty is to have her drink a bunch of juice then sit on the potty until she goes. This has been quiet sucessfull and she hasn't had an accident all day, but how do we teach her that she needs to go sit on it when she needs to pee and not sit on it all the time?

  • It takes awhile for them to feel the urge to go. Take her every 30 minutes or so and read a book while she sits on the potty. It is a slow learning process. Several toilet training methods are online including Supernanny's, Dr. Phil's etc. Also, Google "toilet training readiness" and see some helpful info.

  • Make a note of how long it takes between drinking and peeing. Ask her about using the potty at about that interval. Reward her for success - stickers or M&Ms can work. Have her wear something that's quick to get off and save diapers and/or pull-ups for naps and night time. She may have a few accidents but she'll be able to figure it out. She shouldn't be spending most of her time sitting on a potty.
