What's the difference between an open kiln and a closed kiln ?

Obviously one is open and the other is closed but what are the differences in terms of how the pottery turns out?

  • Based on what I know about open kilns...they generally use fire and need someone to tend to the fire so it stays at temperature. Where as the closed are more or less electric or gas and don't need someone to constantly tend them, for the most part you can set them and go. I would image the ceramics turn out differently because of the temperature...
