Should your cervix be dialated any in the first trimester?

  • The cervix closes and gets sealed off with a mucuous plug about half way through your first trimester. Is that what you were asking?

  • No it should not be dilated in the first trimester. Some women have what is called an incompetent cervix in which it dilates and can cause her to loose her baby. If you think this is happening see your doctor right away. They may be able to place a stitch in the cervix to keep it closed until you are closer to full term, then they'll remove the stitch and deliver your baby. This may require strict bed rest...
