How long to defrost a turkey?

I need some guidelines on defrosting our turkey. It is actually just the breast.

Days? Hours?

In the fridge? Counter? Water?

  • In Fridge 5 to 7 days. Depending on the weight   I have had my turkey in the fridge for at least 24 hours now.  It's just starting to unthaw out.

  • A turkey breast would probably take a couple days to thaw in the fridge or a few hours sitting in cold water (change the water every like 30 minutes or so).
We used to do turkey breast...in the slow cooker. Put in some celery onions, the turkey on top with a little stuffing in it, sprinkle with sage and rosemary and let it cook over night...so yummy. We're doing a full turkey this year, though.
