Deodorant for a 7 yr old?

My 7yo daughter came to give me a hug today and I caught a small wiff of bo.  At first i thought it was me, but no it was in fact my little girl :( What deodorants are safe for kids this age? Are there any home recipes I can try? I really don't want her using "regular" deodorants with chemicals.

  • I started my kids on deodorant around that age. Better safe than sorry. Kids can be so cruel.

  • I would use an all natural, or organic deodorant. Some kids do need it at that age. I don't know of any recipes.

  • She probably doesn't need an antiperspirant, and the light deodorants would be gentler on her skin and less chemicals than a combo antiperspirant deodorant. Look online, or ask your pharmacist or pediatrician for recommendations.

  • I got a few ideas from google. i think I'm going to try the corn starch/baking soda combo. I just wanted to see if there was something that a mom had actually tried and found effective.
"Kids can be cruel" is exactly what i was thinking. I don't want my daughter being the stinky kid in class.

  • We use Tom's of Maine Unscented . It is aluminum free, from hops. I also like Avena Instituto Español (comes in a glass bottle, though) Alcohol free and no animal testing. I like Avena because it means Oatmeal in Spanish. In Texas it is good because it discourages chigger bites...:) as does bathing with any Oatmeal based product.

  • I think the teen ones are a good choice. They are light enough and safe.

  • I started using deoderant at 7 years old. I was stinky and showers did seems to help the pit smell.

  • We had the same problem with our daughter. We purchased her one of the teen ones. I try to limit her use to gym days and when the weather gets warmer. She has very sensitive skin and we have not had a problem so far *knock* on wood.
