Eating your placenta after giving birth?! adult content

I went to a woman's expo not too long ago and went a booth where they were selling some baby stuff. The woman looks at me and say "have you ever heard of eating your placenta after giving birth?" I looked at her and chuckled a bit thinking she was joking and said "no, I am not an animal" she got so serious and said " well, I did. It is good for you helps bring in your milk and helps prevent post partum depression" what?! I mean I am not knocking any woman who has done this, but I don't think after giving birth to my child that I could say just hand me the pan, could I have a fork please? Lol have any of you ladies heard of this before or even have done it? If you have more power to yah! You have a stronger stomach than I do!

  • I haven't done it, but it's actually a very common practice, especially in other countries. It's associated with good health for mom and baby. It's often a ritual thing. In reality, it's no worse than eating liver, but we have a connotation that we think it's gross. I wouldn't personally eat placenta, but I did want to bury my son's when he was born.
