Can anyone recommend some shoes?

I know, I know! Everyone is different, but I'm just looking for a place to begin my search. I need a pair of shoes that will offer good support, particularly arch support, but I could get inserts if I needed to, for walking (like around tracks and stuff) and doing workout videos. I'm going to be shoe shopping in about a month so I'm just looking for a few suggestions to begin the search with because this will be my first time shopping for a pair of shoes specifically to work out with.
(I know this could go in several categories, but this seemed to be the most relevant.)

  • I bought those ShapeUps from Sketchers. I don't think they helped me "get fit" but they sure did ease allot of my joint and back pain! I love them.

  • I'd rather workout barefoot, personally. Some really soft slippers would also do. Guess it depends on your workout regimen.

  • I love Brooks for my feet, but you should really consider going to a running store and having them fit you. They'll watch how you walk, measure your feet, and find out what activities you'll need the shoes for. This is the ONLY way I shop for running shoes.

  • There are all sorts of shoes to choose from. Shape Ups from Sketchers work wonders, I'm told. Clarks are also supposed to be good shoes.

  • Nike or New Balance are good. Some NB stores have fittings where they can shape your fit inot the perfect shoe for you.

  • Go to a good running store, like Fleet Feet- they will recommend the best shoe for your foot, based on measurement, gait and arch support needed. I love my Asics-
