So, my husband has kidney stones. here's the list of things he CAN'T have...

No dairy products.
No meat.
No tea.
No salt.
No whiskey.

What CAN he eat? We're a low-carb, high-protein diet family.

I told him he'd be eating bean burritos, broccoli, and minestrone the rest of his life!

  • I have them too. They didn't tell me no meat. But, every doctor is different. Anyway, OUCH!! So sorry for your hubby, they are SO painful.

  • Did you know there are stones caused by too much protein? Is his doc aware of your family's diet? Have they tested a stone? They may need to readjust his diet recommendations.

  • Kidney stones will work their way out, and then he can go back to normal I would guess. But I would say beans, chicken, and lots of fruits & veggies... Maybe look for some Vegan or Vegetarian recipes online that you could all try.

  • He just had a 6mm stone removed 1/25. The Dr gave him this assessment based on the results of his 24-hr urine test. He's got elevated iodine, protein, calcium, and euric acid. These are things the Dr recommended yesterday. There's no getting out of this. Even though the one has been removed, he has 6 more the expect him to pass in the next five years. These things he CAN'T eat are to prevent his body from making more stones!!
