  • Right now the focus should be getting Americans who want to leave, out of Japan... Not speculating and jumping to conclusions about the SLIGHTEST chance something could impact CONUS/Hawaii/Alaska...

  • If you want to know what's going on and will happen, open a science book and a history book. We already know how radiation travels, how it dissipates, how the air currents work in the atmosphere, and what levels of radiation are considered safe. Japan and the US have a different standard of what safe is. Our government is giving info based on their standards (all Americans in Japan are to evacuate for a 50 mile radius around the reactors), while Japan is giving theirs (everyone should evacuate to a 20 mile radius). Aside from that, the information we've been hearing is no different than common knowledge. What's airborne isn't going to get here in much volume - most of it will be higher in the atmosphere and moving in another direction. Be more concerned about imported products.

  • I don't think anyone knows what the effect is. PBO, just this afternoon, had an actual statement about Japan other than the standard 'we feel so bad for them' stuff. Every time something like this happens, there are elements that just weren't planned for. We, they, any one can plan for everything. It isn't possible. I hope people who understand what is going on, can make the inferential leaps into the inductive reasoning can help these people.

  • We'll they are starting to tell us some truths about here in the US. The NYTimes.com has a map now with the expected path of radiation for the US. There is already an increase in radiation here as far as Denver from reactor #1. #3 is on the way & should hit here tomorrow. But they are not telling the public everything to prevent mass panic. They will say not to worry today and in a week they'll pass on the grim news after the fact, that's the media. You can monitor the radiation on radiationnetwork.com

  • I think they are trying to tell us the truth, but the "truth" is still evolving. Look at it from their side - in any emergency situtation there so many confusing and chaotic half-reports and hearsay... I'm glad they are not just dumping ALL the information (unverified) in our laps or we'd all be FREAKING OUT. But they are trying to protect the Americans in Japan (being way more cautious than the Japanese government) and they are sending our specialists there to figure out exactly what's going on and to help keep things from getting worse. Plus there is the independent press to get information from (not just the government). Guess I never was very good at being a conspiracy theorist...

  • I don't know but won't put anything past our govt, or any other govt for that matter. Didn't one of the higher ups in Japan meet with FDR while they were working on attacking Pearl Harbor?
