Why isn't the UN doing anything?

Purposes of the UN - to maintain international peace and security, to safeguard human rights, to provide a mechanism for international law, and to promote social and economic progress, improve living standards, and fight diseases. It provides the opportunity for countries to balance global interdependence and national interests when addressing international problems.

Doesn't the slaughter occurring over there fit in somewhere?

  • The UN does NOTHING because LOTS of the members (America, China, Japan, Germany, Italy) have a veto vote can prevent them from doing anything and have said they will not support actions against them. Thats why the UN does NOTHING.

  • The U.N. is an ineffective organization that exists only to collect an obscene amount of money in dues and then use that money for administrative fees and salary. Whenever they do go into an area, they are 'peace keepers' who are killed because their rules of engagement don't allow them to fight back. The U. N. should be dismantled and the building rented out as apartments!

  • I'm not saying you did, carpy. Just that on your posts, I ALWAYS get down voted, no matter what I say :P

As for taking action, the UN has to abide by rules, and whatever they do goes through a voting process. So I don't think they are deliberately ignoring the situation, which is kind of what you were implying.
