  • Is there any other kind?

Of course, a grumpy, wild toddler in the afternoon is actually a sign of an overtired tired who needs more sleep at night. But toddlers in general bounce from one thing to another all day long. Sticking with one task for more than 5 minutes is a sign that they are fascinated by that thing... but they probably won't be for long!

  • I agree with kaycee14; when children are tired, their powerful will-forces can take over and make them run themselves ragged. Engage them in something calm which you are doing WITH them - reading a book or telling a story is great (TV /video / computer are NOT helpful, quite the opposite!) If the child is truly hyper and not just over-active, evaluate how much sugar they are getting (there is LOTS of sugar in juice, even natural juice) compared with how much protein and fiber they are eating. Also, are they in an overstimulating environment? The wholesome lifestyle for a child under 4 is being with family in a peaceful home (not TV/radio chatter). For a 2-yr-old, it's better not to be running errands in the car every day. And generally, it's true that young kids are very active - it would be sad to see one who wasn't!

  • My poor child is bouncing off the walls from the time his feet hits the floor till he goes out that night. You would think the way he goes he would sleep good, but I couldn't get that lucky lol!!
