Has anyone ever had green beans make sparks in the microwave?

I put some green beans on a plate to heat them up for my son to eat. They were making a lot of popping noises to I looked in the microwave and there were orange flashes on them. I know I'm not crazy because my mom has seen it too. There was no metal in the microwave to make sparks either. Anyone ever see this?

  • Yep, only with canned beans, and it was usually a wayward stem. But, beans can get rust on them, and there's every possibility that one of those beans was missed in the inspection process and had rust on it.

  • Never seen that, But Id guess it's heavy metal in the brand of beans your buying. ONLY metal with Arc in the microwave.

  • That's interesting. I'm going to look at the inside of the can next time. I told mom it was because they have so much iron in them... joking of course!

  • Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I never knew my green beans could rust.
