  • Honestly . . . we are all of the same team.

I think history tells us~ we have to be careful what kind of situation our President gets us in.... Obama promised the American People our military actions would be over in days.... Now, reports are that a full blown civil war is underway and we/coalistion forces are in the thick of it... Congress is wanting actions... Obama is vacationing in Brazil.... His actions... His Words... His "non-war" military action of force.

  • Okay, you probably all know this . . .but for those who don't . . the UN gave approval to use means to prevent the citizens of Libya from getting attacked. France and US appropraitely waited to for that approval before moving forward. Both have deployed forces to prevent Ghadafi from hurting more people. In a note to Obama, Ghadafi actually stated that men, women, and children were prepared to DIE with him. It became apparant that we would either be watching innocents die, or do something to protect them.
A lot of missiles deployed actually came from France . . they were aimed at military strongpoints.

    Gaddafi's Son Reportedly Killed....(not confirmed)

  • My Question, Does UN “principle” determine US foreign policy and intervention over that of the US Constitution?

  • grly . . . not in theory, but we got in a fair amount of international trouble when we began our last war without UN approval. That hurts us, security-wise because we are then seen as more of an international threat then a help. So, our policy helps us position and advocate within the UN realms, but we really need to have UN approval before we can carry anything out.
Also, as part of the UN, we have pledged to uphold certian principles, and that pledge becomes compromised when we move against them.

  • As far as I know, if we have an imminent threat to the safety and security of our people, we would probably be more apt to act without going through the steps af approval. A decision of such would probably be supported internationally, as long as the threat was an "actual" threat and not a "preceived" one.

I assume that there is constant communication between our governement and the other UN governements, so we probably have an informal "feel" as to the UN opinion without an actual meeting.

  • But the UN is well aware of our planned actions...what's the beef?

I am all for Dealing with Gaddafi.  With the authorization of Congress.  I support the mission. Just curious as to the continuity of past military  missions...  I just find it interesting (1) IF and (2) WHY it is deemed acceptable to disregard the US Constitution with Obama, but in other Presidential actions of the PAST, it was considered a horrid act.... Are standards measured differently depending on who is sitting in the Oval Office?
