Traveling with a 2 year old?

In less than two weeks my husband gets a weekend pass from his army training, and we will be making a 6 hour drive and be staying in a hotel with a 2 year old. Does any one have any travel advice?? We haven't even taken any long trips.

  • If you can, schedule the driving thru naptime or night if possible. It's great when they can sleep along the way!

    Don't forget snacks too.

  • Oh I have one big advice. Add 1.5 hours onto the trip! Seriously, go to the local Dollar Tree (Dollar General, Everything's a Buck, etc) and buy some of the dinkiest little toys...don't let your little one see them until you are on the road and pass them out 1 at a time when melt downs or restlessness starts. Box of wipes (and a baggie with a wet paper towel) are a necessity. I swear by the toy thing. It will be a new, exciting and keep little one busy. PS. Yeah for your DH's weekend pass. God bless him for his sacrifice for our country. Enjoy your weekend!

  • Portable DVD player and new movies, bring your pack and play, (we had 2 and took for him and one to contain his stuff so I wouldn't lose any of it at the hotel) and his favorite toys, blankie, cuddly, music, etc. An ice chest with juice or milk boxes, snack packs of crackers or fruit snacks are good as well. The Dollar Tree idea is GREAT and it adds to the excitement. Also, don't over-plan outings. 2 y/o's get tired and cranky easily. We thought the zoo would be awesome for him, but he slept thru most of it. :( Have a great trip! :)
