  • At my son's preschool, they have to be cut at least in half and the preschool goes through age 4. Occasionally I will give them whole to my 2 year old but only if I'm sitting down eating with him, otherwise I slice them quickly.

  • Once they start chewing., and eating real food not baby food . and are not playing with food. Also when you start, do not turn your back!

  • I used to do home daycare and their food program rule was anyone under the age of 2 had to have all food diced, including grapes. Size depended on amount of teeth, age, etc. I agree with izmy64 above, once your child is no longer playing with their food and chewing it you should be fine, but watch carefully till they are older.

  • don't forget to cut up hot dogs as well...perfect size to get lodged in their little throats..at least that's what my doctor said...mine's too young for hot dogs.

  • I actually don't feed my 2 year old hot dogs, so that's not an issue. Thank you for the advise though :)
