Homeschooling or Homework question

What are some positive things you try that help your child who may crnigs when the pencil comes out? My son enjoys reading, experiments, and some math, but writing is his least favorite.

  • I suggest getting a dry erase board or a chalk board (Chalk board paint painted onto a board is easier then finding a chalk board) and have him write on those. It'll be a little more fun and you can draw pictures in between.

  • Write a story together taking turns doing each sentence. You start once and he starts the next time. Make it fun and even silly to make him more comfortable with writing. Have notebook just for these stories and save them!

  • Try sidewalk chalk outside since it's warmer. Or with paint. Get him a penpal. My kids don't enjoy writing for their assignments either, but they love to write letters to people. How old is your son? Maybe he's not ready for much writing yet (assuming he's younger).

  • I understand his pain I feel the same way. Ask him why, and what he thinks he could do to enjoy it more! Maybe start out with a little writing and increase it weekly Good luck to you and your son!

  • writing, as in printing or handwriting, or writing as in composing? if he's young and it's composing, you could allow him to dictate to you, and then you could type it into the computer so any difficulties he has in the physical writing process won't get in his way.
